Wonder Under the Open Sky: Family Camp 2026

This year at Family Camp, forty-one of us — from a two year-old to an eighty- five-year-old, families and individuals alike — gathered beneath a picnic shelter to share the sacred story of Creation.

There was something fitting about telling this story outdoors, surrounded by the very world it describes. As I laid out the image of each day, the children were free to move about — and yet they were drawn in. Our youngest, a little two-year-old, stopped mid-motion and settled into the story as each new day appeared. The adults, too, leaned in, thoughtful and attentive as we lingered together over the wondering questions.

When I asked, “I wonder which is your favorite day of creation,” one weary but happy soul answered without missing a beat: “Friday!” — and we all chuckled, knowing she’d just come straight from work to be with us. It was a small, joyful reminder that this story meets each of us right where we are.

Then everyone was invited to respond the way Worship & Wonder invites us to: by creating. With all kinds of art materials spread before them, each person made their own favorite day of creation — light, sky, sea, land, creatures, and rest taking shape in as many hands as there were makers. Afterward we shared. Some delighted in showing what they’d made, and every person, young and old, was fully engaged — taking genuine interest in their own work and one another’s.

It was a joyful reminder that the sacred stories belong to every age — that wonder has no age limit.
